DENTAL BRIDGE OPTIONS
If you have missing teeth, including front teeth, a dental bridge can help restore the look and function of your teeth. It bridges the gap where the missing tooth is. Talk your dentist at Missouri Gardens Dental to find out if it’s right for you.
Dental Bridge Frequently Asked Questions
How do dental bridges work?
At least one tooth on either side of the bridge is prepared for a crown. A "false" tooth is joined to the crown/crowns, and the complete structure is cemented to the teeth that have been prepared. At this point, the bridge cannot be removed. A well-made structure will feel like natural teeth.
A dental bridge can help you keep your natural teeth in place. When you fill in missing teeth spaces with a restorative element like a dental bridge, your other natural teeth are much less likely to drift and become loose. It is important to have all missing spaces or "gaps" filled for function and balanced forces to be distributed evenly amongst all of the teeth.
What are the parts of a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is comprised of two parts.
Crown or Abutment: The base of the bridge, cemented to nearby teeth on one or either side of the false tooth.
Pontic: The replacement or false tooth.
What is the alternative to a dental bridge, and how does one decide?
An alternative to dental bridges is dental implants. Both can be excellent choices, and the decision process between the two can be both very personal and complex. Many subtle differences in individual anatomy can make one choice preferred over the other. We can explain these considerations and help you make a decision you will be happy with. No matter the choice, filling a space in your teeth can have a major impact on the quality of your life.
When is a dental bridge needed and what is it?
A dental bridge may be needed when a tooth is missing, but there is at least one tooth available for a permanent attachment.
Dr. Patel and Dr. Vazquez will advise you on the best treatment to use for your teeth.
